April 01: In a thrilling encounter, Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Punjab Kings by 6 wickets in the 8th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Andre Russell was the star of the show for KKR, scoring a blistering 70 off just 31 deliveries to help his team chase down Punjab's total of 137. The victory takes KKR to the top of the IPL standings.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Punjab Kings got off to a poor start, losing their top three batsmen for just 23 runs. Captain Mayank Agarwal was the only batsman to offer any resistance, scoring 32 runs. Rahul Chahar was the pick of the KKR bowlers, taking 3 wickets for 19 runs.
KKR's chase started cautiously, with openers Venkatesh Iyer and Ajinkya Rahane putting on a 49-run partnership. However, both batsmen were dismissed in quick succession, bringing Shreyas Iyer and Andre Russell to the crease. Russell played a brilliant innings, hitting 9 fours and 4 sixes to guide KKR to victory with 13 balls to spare.
Kolkata Knight Riders will now face Rajasthan Royals in their next match on April 2, while Punjab Kings will take on Chennai Super Kings on April 3.
