Morris and Williams Represent LSU in 2023 Draft
Morris Selected by Connecticut Sun, Williams Drafted by Minnesota Lynx
BATON ROUGE, La. (April 11, 2023) - LSU women's basketball continued its tradition of excellence in the WNBA Draft as two Tigers were selected on Monday night. Point guard Alexis Morris was drafted 9th overall by the Connecticut Sun, while forward LaDazhia Williams was taken with the 20th overall pick by the Minnesota Lynx.
Morris, a 5-foot-10 guard from Arlington, Texas, was a four-year starter for the Tigers. She averaged 15.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game in her career. She was named to the All-SEC Second Team three times and was the SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2022.
Williams, a 6-foot-3 forward from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was a three-year starter for LSU. She averaged 13.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per game in her career. She was named to the All-SEC Second Team twice and was the SEC Freshman of the Year in 2020.
The drafting of Morris and Williams marks the fourth consecutive year that LSU has had at least one player selected in the WNBA Draft. It is also the first time since 2018 that the Tigers have had two players drafted.
"We are so proud of Alexis and LaDazhia for being selected in the WNBA Draft," said LSU coach Kim Mulkey. "They are both incredibly talented players who have worked hard to achieve their dreams. We know they will both be successful in the WNBA."
