Aurora Borealis Dazzles Seattle Skies

Aurora Borealis Dazzles Seattle Skies

Spectacular Light Show As Solar Storm Hits Earth

Seattle-area stargazers got a spectacular view of the aurora borealis Friday night as a strong solar storm hit Earth.

The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, were visible in Seattle and across much of the United States on May 10 due to a large solar storm. The storm caused a surge of charged particles to interact with the Earth's magnetic field, creating the dazzling display of lights in the sky.

Keep an eye on the skies on Saturday night for what could be another dazzling display. Forecasters say there is a chance of another geomagnetic storm, which could bring the aurora back to Seattle and other parts of the country.

If you're hoping to see the aurora, find a spot away from city lights and look towards the Northern horizon. The best time to see the aurora is typically between 10 pm and 2 am and can be seen in person and with photo or video equipment.
