Bruins Sweep Panthers, Win NHL-Record 65th Game
Bruins Capture Fourth Straight Season Series Victory Over Panthers
The Boston Bruins made history on Tuesday night, defeating the Florida Panthers 3-2 in overtime to win their NHL-record 65th game of the regular season. The Bruins also swept the season series against the Panthers, winning all four games. It was the sixth time in history that Boston has swept a season series against Florida.
Bruins Rally from Behind to Win in Overtime
The Bruins trailed 2-1 in the third period, but David Pastrnak tied the game with just over five minutes remaining in regulation. Brad Marchand then won it for Boston in overtime, scoring his second goal of the game. Tuukka Rask made 30 saves in net for the Bruins, while Roberto Luongo made 24 saves for the Panthers.
Bruins Continue Dominance Over Panthers
The Bruins' victory over the Panthers was their fourth straight in the season series. Boston has now won 10 of the last 11 meetings between the two teams. The Bruins have also won the last two playoff series between the two teams, in 2016 and 2019.
Panthers Fall Short of Expectations
The Panthers entered the playoffs as the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference, but they were eliminated in the first round by the Bruins. The Panthers finished the regular season with a 42-30-10 record, 43 points behind the Bruins.
Bruins Set New NHL Record
The Bruins' 65 wins in the regular season are the most by any team in NHL history. The previous record was 62 wins, set by the Detroit Red Wings in 1995-96.
