Derek Clancey hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs as assistant GM
Francis "King" Clancy will be happy
When Derek Clancey looks up at the rafters inside Scotiabank Arena he will see his grandfather smiling down at him.
After all, Francis Michael "King" Clancy played 13 seasons for the Maple Leafs and hoisted the Stanley Cup in 1922 before going on to have a successful career as an NHL coach and executive and become one of the most respected people in the game's history.
Derek Clancey signed on as assistant general manager of player personnel with the Maple Leafs this summer, becoming the third generation of his family to work in the NHL.
