Social Media Photo Seekers Are Destroying Special Places, Warns Caver

Volunteers Clear Rubbish From 19th Century Mine

Caver Warns Photo Seekers Damaging Local Heritage

A caver has warned that social media photo seekers are destroying special places after volunteers hauled piles of rubbish out of a 19th Century mine.

Anthony Taylor, who explores caves in his spare time, said he was shocked by the amount of litter left behind by people taking photos for Instagram and other social media platforms.

“It's heartbreaking to see how these beautiful places are being ruined by people who are only interested in getting a good shot for their social media pages," he said.

Taylor said he and other volunteers had spent hours clearing up the mess, which included plastic bottles, food wrappers and even human waste.

"It's not just the litter that's the problem," he said. "People are also damaging the caves by climbing on the walls and breaking the formations."

Taylor urged people to be more respectful of the environment and to think about the consequences of their actions.

"These caves are a part of our heritage and we need to protect them for future generations," he said. "If we don't, they will be lost forever."
